Q.1 (a) Define following properties of fluid and give the unit of each property.
(i) Dynamic viscosity (ii) kinematic viscosity (iii) Density (iv) Specific volume
(v) Surface tension (vi) Bulk modulus (vii) Specific density. 07

(b) State and derive Pascal’s Law. 07

Q.2 (a) Define following terms: (i) Stream line (ii) Streak line (iii) Path line
(iv) Stream tube (v) Co-efficient of discharge (vi) Co-efficient of velocity(vii) Reynold’s number 07

(b) State the limitation of Bernoulli’s equation and derive it from energy equation. 07

OR

(b) A pipe having diameter of 30cm at point ‘A’ and 40cm at point ‘B’. Point ‘A’ and ‘B’ are at
3 meter and 7 meter up from the datum respectively. Flow rate through pipe is 0.7 m3/sec.
 If pressure at point ‘A’ is 5 meter of water, find the pressure at point ‘B’. 07

Q.3 (a) Differentiate between notch and weir and derive an equation for discharge
over rectangular notch. 07

(b) Water flows through a triangular notch of 1200, under a head of 50cm.
Calculate discharge in litre/sec, if coefficient of discharge is 0.6. 07

Q.3 (a) Derive an expression for measuring disharge through venturimeter. 07

(b) A horizontal venturimeter 20cm X 10cm is use to measure flow of oil of specific gravity 0.8.
 Rate of flow of oil is 0.75m3/sec. If venture meter constant is 0.98, find deflection of oil -mercury manometer. 07

Q.4 (a) Explain the construction and working of centrifugal pump with neat sketch.
Also state the fault and remedies of a centrifugal pump. 07

(b) A centrifugal pump discharges water at the rate of 50 lit/sec against 25 meter head.  07
Find the power required to drive pump, if the head loss is 14 meter and overall efficiency is 85.5%.

Q. 4 (a) Explain the construction and working of Pelton wheel. 07

(b) Discuss the important of specific speed of a turbine. Find the specific speed and state types of turbine, if head is 25 meter and the speed is 150 rpm and the power is 7.5MW. 07
